Outreach

Below are education and outreach activities for elementary and secondary school students and for undergraduate and graduate students given by Dr. Rhodes and his research group members.

Education and Outreach for Elementary and Secondary School Students

  • Interactive science demonstrations and hands-on educational activities to encourage students to increase student motivation/interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and pursuing careers in STEM
    • Given at 3 local schools: Miller Middle School, Hernandez Elementary School, Blanco Vista Elementary School
    • About 700 students were impacted by this activity
  • STEM open house
    • Students from local area schools visited the Rhodes laboratory to learn about clean energy materials and what scientists do
    • 2 open houses with visits from students from San Marcos High School, Miller Middle School, and Goodnight Middle School

Education and Outreach for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

  • Seminar: “Career Steps and Opportunities in Industry for Scientists and Engineers
    • Seminar given 2 times for undergraduates and graduate students; includes career planning; opportunities for scientists and engineers working in industry and personal perspectives on working in industry
  • Seminar: “Commercialization in Science and Engineering
    • Seminar given 2 times for graduate students; includes overview of commercialization process; personal perspectives on commercialization from working within 3 different types of organizations (academics, industry, government laboratory)
